class A31, line
The mustangs from Göteborg
These cars were originally in service in Göteborg (Gothenburg), but were purchased in 1988 by SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik - Greater Stockholm Transport) for use on Djurgårdslinjen. The Swedish Tramway Association was permitted to purchase these cars from SL in 1995 for the nominal price of SEK 1 per car! These tramcars were built in 1949 by ASEA and Hägglunds. They resemble the Stockholm motorised trams that were known as "Mustangs", which were in service between 1945 and 1967. However, the Göteborg mustangs are wider, and have been rebuilt for right-hand traffic. In Göteborg these cars were referred to as class M23.
